Winter/Spring Bedding Plants

Pansies
A great winter bedding plant to introduce a punch of colour into the garden, most common as part of a window box or hanging basket pansies can add a splash of colour to almost any area of the garden but prefer an area which is sunny with partial shade. With its powerful blues, purples, yellows, whites, orange and reds they are a vibrant addition to any garden and with regular dead heading, they can boast a continuous flower throughout the winter into the spring.

Primrose
A common well loved cottage garden bedding plant, modern breeding has given us a vast spectrum of new exciting colours to choose from, in times gone by primroses would have been a brief spring flower but now with modern breeding this has allowed the strong hardy perennial to last from the early winter throughout while still displaying its powerful rosettes into the spring months, try this plant as part of your next winter planting scheme and we are sure you will love the results.

Forget-Me-Not
This pretty winter bedding plant erupts with an abundance of dainty flowers in the spring and is the perfect partner for spring bulbs as well as its traditional blue, forget-me-nots are also found in pinks and whites, masses of tiny button flowers will cascade throughout your garden year on year with this dainty but splendid bedding plant.

Cyclamen

with its marbled leaves and its curved reflexed petals it can boast well as a stand-alone plant or as part of a scheme, pairing well with the likes of snowdrops , evergreen grasses and trailing ivy as part of a window box, grow this plant in your beds borders and window boxes for a splash of vibrant colour this winter/spring.

Spring Bulbs
Who can fail to be cheered by a patch of golden daffodils bathing in the spring sunshine, or a vase of colourful tulips picked fresh from the garden?

Begin to plant spring flowering bulbs, corms and tubers in borders and containers between October and December, as a rule bulbs should be planted at least 3 times their own depth to ensure the cold weather doesn’t affect their growth, however there are some exceptions so always check the bulb pack for instructions before you plant or have a professional do it for you.

Daffodil
A true favourite in every garden and for good reason,

this spring favourite boasts a great golden colour ensuring a smile each and every time you catch their gaze, with its frilly trumpeted blossom they are a treat that is hard to beat.

Tulips
With so many shapes, colours and variety available they really are a gardeners favourite, it is always best to browse and see what tulips take your fancy as every garden is different and each individual tulip suits a range of applications in a garden landscape, flowering from early spring to late summer the tulip is a must in a garden looking for a vibrant yet welcoming spring/ summer feel.

Bluebells
A classical woodland site which is now commonplace amongst most gardens across the UK, what better than to look at a blanket area off lush bluebells , a great feature for under a tree or as part of a walkway through an orchard woodland area , the bluebell thrives on a damp shady area but are extremely hardy even in drought conditions , however you must choose an English variety if you are looking for a controlled growth as the Spanish variety has the tendency to wander become invasive and hybridise with our native bluebell stock.

Crocus
This jewel-like flower is a little gem planted randomly throughout a lawn look great as the rocket-shaped petals lift through the grass to reveal a wonderful show of colour a must for any keen gardener.
